Spring colors, on-trend and since you can wear them with socks, totally practical for cold springs (especially if you buy a waterproof bootie, like Aquatalia makes, which I think are worth every penny. I very rarely wear sandals, so my Spring and Summer footwear is mostly transitional. I'd feel goofy walking around on a sunny April morning in sandals, because truly, it's not warm enough — but by then I'm definitely ready to put away the boots! I even get cold in flats with foot socks, which is summer wear for me. I have pumps but when it gets into June I always bust out my espadrilles. Well, I do have my oxfords, but I am by and large one of those people who switches directly from boots to sandals. I wear little secret socks inside the oxfords, but lower vamp shoes won't conceal them. They don't keep your feet protected. I pretty much can't wear closed toes without socks or tights, so any bare legged looks need socks (which I can hide in boots) or open toes. Add to this problem the fact that ballet flats/loafers/other low vamp shoes pretty much won't stay on my feet anyway, and the fact that a lot of closed non-boot shoes are too deep for my shallow feet (so they hit too high on the heel and rub like mad), and it's just more trouble than it's worth. Our footwear needs are truly different, even when we live in the same climate. I love to have polished feet, and pedicures make my feet look and feel healthy. So partially it looks weird but it's also made me protective of my feet. I like sandals okay but I'd prefer to be in trainers or tennis shoes by far! I suffer from Raynaud's, so I'm always cold and lose too much heat if my feet are bare. Also, I'm a dancer, and dancers aren't supposed to wear thong sandals because it messes up the shape of the feet. I definitely wear transitional shoes. I can't wear sandals at work.

I might try it again this spring (if we get any spring at all), but once summer hits, it's sandals 24/7! If I a shoe really doesn't want to be worn with socks, it is a summer shoe in my climate, and is then directly competing with sandals. I'm a peep toe lover, and mix transitional shoes with sandals as soon as the snow is gone and generally wear them May through October. Some shoes, like my patent loafers, and flat olive Clark's (like a ballerina with a 1/2 inch heel) get left at the office once the snow flies,. I'll wear sometimes ariat cowboy boots to work, but switch out to the shoes for the day, switching back for the commute hom. I live in one of those areas with little or no spring before summer heat and humidity hit full force.
